Cuba!

Tomorrow morning at 6:15am I will be flying off to sunny Varadero for 7 days of beach, rum, and general gallivanting.  I'm excited!

I'm also excited to finally start working on the CCIE when I return.  To think I have 7 days of freedom left before the rest of my year is nothing more than conf t after conf t.  I'm certainly looking forward to it but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't intimidated.  The CCIE has for so long been something that "the guys that really know what they're doing" possess and something that I have to work toward that to finally be sitting at starting an actual run to it in earnest seems surreal.

I'm also going to say it.  Yeh, I know I shouldn't but I'm going to.

I am going to pass the CCIE lab on the first attempt.

There :P

Alright, I'm off to make sure I have everything for Cuba and try and get a little sleep before we leave here around 3am.

  1. Picked up your blog from you following me on Twitter. How's the study coming? It's funny what you're saying about "the guys that really know what they're doing"...I felt that way too. What sucks is that yeah - you learn a ton and know your stuff much better. Then you also find you're still a mere mortal with a ton of stuff you still don't know. And then what REALLY sucks is that you forget stuff after passing the lab, which I guess is part of the point of recertification.

One comment on CCIE...it's as much about time management (figuring out how to get a lab done in 8 hours with time leftover to check for mistakes) as it is about the technology. I learned a lot about the technology, absolutely. But I also learned how to manage lab time very well, so that I could get an 8 hour lab done in about 6 or 7, then review.

  2. Hi Ethan. Thanks for the comment. I didn't even notice this comment on here... I've been fairly negligent on doing anything with this.

Studying is coming along. It's been slow going so far but it should really pick up here now that fall is here and I should FINALLY be getting some funding from my employer.

I've heard that the CCIE lab is as much an exercise in speed configuration as it is in actual knowledge. I'm certainly going to be keeping that in mind as I prepare.
